The Davis team will host Japan in September: “a quality opponent”

About 11 years after Israel’s 2:3 victory in Tokyo, the teams will meet as part of home games 1. Captain Yoni Ehrlich: “To this day I still remember our amazing meeting there”

The Israeli Davis team came back from a double deficit of two losses to win 2:3 over Latvia and thus survived in the world house number 1. Today (Thursday) the lottery was held and it was determined that the Israeli team will host Japan as part of the Davis Cup House 1 games, games that will be held on the weekend of September 15/16, 2023. Yoni Ehrlich, the captain of the national team, said in response to the draw: “I am very happy that we will get to play at home. Japan is a very high quality team with a history of excellent players. Our team will have the opportunity to face a very high quality team and the audience will have the experience of very high quality tennis”.

Further on according to Ehrlich, the last meeting between the teams took place in 2012 in Tokyo and ended with an amazing victory of Israel 2:3 over the local team. The Japanese have four players ranked among the best 200 in the world, led by Yoshihito Nishioka ranked 34th in the world, Taro Daniel ranked 107th, Watanuki ranked 111th in the world and Ushida ranked 194th in the world.
